Promes open to future PL move

Frank Lampard is confident Chelsea can get a result against Ajax on Wednesday despite being without a host of key players for the clash.

Ajax star Quincy Promes has admitted he would be open to a future move to the Premier League.

Promes is part of a talented Ajax side and has caught the eye so far this season in the Eredivisie and the Champions League.

The 27-year-old has hit eight goals in the Dutch top flight already this term, while he has three in Europe, and was on target in Tuesday’s stunning 4-4 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where he also managed an assist.

Playing alongside the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Dusan Tadic and Donny van de Beek for the Amsterdam giants clearly suits the Netherlands international but inevitably his performances have led to speculation he could eventually make the switch to England.

A move away from the Johann Cruyff Arena anytime soon looks unlikely but, when asked if he would be interested in playing in the Premier League at some point, Promes admitted he could one day.

“To me, if I have a chance, maybe in the future,” he told reporters.

Promes has been with Ajax since the summer when he joined from Spanish side Sevilla in a £14million deal and is under contract until the end of the 2023-24 season.

He is expected to start when Erik ten Hag’s side host Utrecht on Sunday. Ajax are top of the Eredivisie, six points clear of AZ Alkmaar after 12 games, and they will hope to progress in Europe again as they sit second in Champions League Group H, level on points with both Chelsea and Valencia with two games to play.
