Boetius hoping to return to wing role

Feyenoord's Jean-Paul Boetius admits he is struggling to adapt to his more central role following Nicolai Jorgensen's injury.

The 23-year-old has been playing as the main striker since Jorgensen picked up his hamstring injury on September 9 against Heracles, with youngster Sam Larsson filling in on the left.

Having started the season in strong form, netting three goals in his opening four games, Boetius has failed to score since switching to the number nine position.

De Trots van Zuid were handed a boost earlier this week with the news the Dane could be about to return for this weekend’s clash with PEC Zwolle.

Although he says he is happy to feature wherever required, he admits playing centrally does not suit him as well as his preferred wide role.

“If Nicolai is fit, he will play again and I have to fight again for my spot on the left,” says Boëtius at Fox Sports. “The central spot is not my favourite, it’s no secret, but if I have to play, I’ll be there.”
