Piazon out to impress

Lucas Piazon is hoping to impress during his loan spell with Vitesse Arnhem before returning to challenge for a place at Chelsea.

The 19-year-old Brazilian joined the Chelsea youth ranks in 2011 before making his first-team debut a year later, but he has made only three appearances for the Blues to date.

The Sao Paulo-born midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan with La Liga outfit Malaga and made 11 top-flight appearances in Spain.

He returned to Stamford Bridge over the summer but Jose Mourinho made it clear soon after his arrival that he would be sent out on loan for the entire season.

The talented youngster ended up in the Netherlands and is relishing the chance to show what he can do at the GelreDome.

“Chelsea’s directors are always in touch with me and my family,” he said. “I know that in order to improve I need to play for those smaller European teams.

“I hope to play for Chelsea as soon as possible, but that is up to me too, up to my performance here. I have to stay a year here and do my best.”
