De Jong hails PSV’s narrow win at Groningen
Luuk De Jong was pleased that PSV Eindhoven managed to battle to a 2-1 win at Groningen despite their poor first half display.
The PSV skipper felt the side were too slow to get going and that was reflected in the hosts taking the lead on 42 minutes when Samir Memisevic was on target.
However, PSV levelled in stoppage time through Donyell Malen and right-back Denzel Dumfries was the hero as he snatched the winner four minutes from time.
De Jong said: ‘We never got going in the first half and were lucky to be level at half-time. Denzel was outstanding today, with an assist and a goal. I am really happy with the win.’
De Jong also played down suggestions the players were tired after their 2-2 draw against Tottenham in the Champions League on Wednesday.
He added: ‘We are fit and keep going. In fact, some FC Groningen players suffered from leg cramp in the closing stages.’
