PSV coach happy with progression

Mark van Bommel hit out at the match officials after his PSV Eindhoven side lost 2-1 against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

PSV Eindhoven head coach Mark van Bommel was pleased with his side’s progression to the Europa League play-off rounds.

The Dutch side progressed through to the qualifying round of the competition with a 1-0 win over FK Haugesund on Thursday night but the coach thought they made harder work of it than they needed to.

“I think we made it hard on ourselves. We have some great players and created a host of chances but we lacked the finishing touch,” said Van Bommel.

He added: “Some young lads are rather overenthusiastic. They are so anxious to perform well.

“Our midfield is well balanced but sometimes the players make the wrong choices. We must improve in pressing forward as a team and will work hard on that in training.”

PSV will now take on Cypriot side Apollon Limasson in the play-off round over two legs, with the first game at home on Thursday, as they try and make it into the group stage.
