PSV Eindhoven star Steven Bergwijn has been forced to withdraw from the Netherlands squad after picking up a knock against RKC Waalwijk on Sunday.

The 21-year-old playmaker had only returned to the starting XI to make his 100th appearance for PSV after sitting out the 4-0 Europa League win at Apollon Limassol on Thursday because of a minor issue.

And, while Bergwijn managed to complete the full 90 minutes as PSV came from behind to win 3-1 at RKC Waalwijk, courtesy of goals from Paul Quasten, Timo Baurmgartl and Kostas Mitroglou, he reported a knock afterwards.

The club’s medical staff checked on him and it was decided that he should withdraw from the Dutch squad ahead of their European Championship qualifiers against Germany on Friday and Estonia next Monday.

Asa result, Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has decided to call-up Roma winger Justin Kluivert as Bergwijn’s replacement.
