Everton’s pursuit of the Frenchman has been well documented, and now the player himself has revealed how close he came to swapping the Emirates Stadium to Goodison Park.
Giroud has once again struggled for regular game time with the Gunners this season, but after Everton made a disappointing start to the new season and are struggling at the wrong end of the table, it seems the striker is happy with his decision.
“I had the opportunity to leave," Giroud revealed. "I was very close to another English club, Everton. But I think I made the best choice.”
There have been suggestions that Ronald Koeman could resurrect his interest in the striker in the January window, but by the way Giroud is talking, his answer would still be the same.
A new goalscorer will be high on the wanted list of Koeman, who will be hoping that Giroud's desperation to play first-team football ahead of the World Cup, could still see him head to Merseyside.
