Pickford happy to focus on Euros

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says he is happy to focus on the under-21 European Championships after completing his move to Everton.

The England under-21 international is currently away with the squad at the major event in Poland and he played a key role in their opening match against Sweden.

Aidy Boothroyd’s men had to settle for a point against the defending champions at the Under-21 European Championships and Pickford was called on to save a penalty in the goalless draw.

Pickford’s crucial save came just days after he became the world’s third most expensive goalkeeper following a £30million move to Everton as Ronald Koeman plots an assault on the top four next season.

The 23-year-old insists he wanted to get his domestic future wrapped up and has played down any extra pressure as he looks to help the Young Lions to glory.

Pickford said: "It's just a number isn't it? It's my job to be a goalkeeper and keep the ball out of the net and that's what I've done. I've kept a clean sheet. It's just a number, it doesn't affect me.

"I got the deal out of the way and over the line so I could focus on the Euros. I didn't know too much about it until I came out here but got that done so I could focus on trying to win the Euros.

"When I heard about it and they said they were sorting the medical so it could go through, it's nice to get it out of the way."

England under-21s take on Slovakia in their next clash on Monday and punters using their free bet may want to back them to pick up a first win at the tournament.
