Unsworth impressed with Garbutt

Everton Under-23 head coach David Unsworth feels Luke Garbutt is starting to get back to his best as he pushes towards the first team.

The 24-year-old has not made a first-team appearance for Everton for over two years, with manager Ronald Koeman seemingly deeming the defender to be surplus to requirements.

Unsworth has revealed Garbutt was keen to find a club to join on loan over the summer but now the coach is happy to see the player impress following the Under-23's 2-1 victory over Portsmouth.

He told the club's official website: "I am delighted with him. He was disappointed not to go out on loan but that is football sometimes. He has got his head down, bought into what this group of players is all about and the credit goes to him."
