Veteran could provide Blues goal solution
Everton have joined the race to sign German international striker Miroslav Klose, who is available on a free transfer this summer.
David Moyes is known to be seeking striking reinforcements this summer having struggled for attacking numbers last season, while James Vaughan and Yakubu are both set to leave this summer.
With Louis Saha's injury problems, Moyes has had to rely on inexperienced duo Jermaine Beckford and Victor Anichebe and Klose would provide the option of a proven goalscorer at the highest level.
The 32-year-old, who has scored 14 goals in World Cup finals, has seen his contract expire at Bayern Munich this summer and a number of European clubs are chasing his signature.
Tottenham, Valencia, Juventus, Trabzonspor have all been linked with the striker, but Everton are understood to be ready to offer a two-year deal in an attempt to persuade Klose to move to Merseyside.
