The future of Renault’s current driver line-up, Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer, has come under scrutiny recently after the French manufacturer announced they had signed Nico Hulkenberg from Force India for the 2017 season.
It would appear likely that one of, or even both Magnussen and Palmer could be replaced as Renault weigh up whether to clear the decks after a frustrating campaign.
Should he leave Renault then Magnussen has recently been linked with a move to America’s IndyCar series with Andretti.
However, the former McLaren driver has once more stated his desire to stay within Formula 1, although he admits he has yet to hear from Renault as to whether he has a future with the team.
“Seeing rumors around about me in IndyCar. I’m a big fan of IndyCar but those are really just rumors. Nothing to it,” he tweeted.
“I feel confident my future is in F1 and there should be no doubt I intent to stay with @RenaultSportF1 for many years if I can.
“Unfortunately there is nothing yet to announce regarding my future, but hopefully there will be soon. I too am getting impatient!”
Southampton have announced plans for a two-week tour of China as part of their pre-season preparations for the 2018-19 season.
