Retirement pleases Jol
Fulham, Latest news update:
Fulham boss Martin Jol has revealed Damien Duff's decision to retire from international football is a weight off his mind.
The Cottagers winger pulled out of the international fold after picking up his 100th cap for the Republic of Ireland at this summer's European Championships.
The decision is one that Jol believes has helped the veteran to start the new campaign in such an explosive fashion scoring three goals in seven games so far- already more than last season's total in the League.
The Dutch manager has already lost Mahamadou Diarra to injury while away on international duty last month and admits that the 33-year-old's decision to retire is just one less thing to worry about.
"Of course, there's always a risk of an injury when you play these games," said the Dutchman.
"I think he's got to 100 games and he decided to call it a day, so I won't say I'm happy he did that but it's certainly got a few advantages."
