Joburg Open woe for Oosthuizen

Louis Oosthuizen has been forced to withdraw from this week's Joburg Open due to a freak injury sustained on Monday.

The 2010 Open champion was looking to build on a closing 67 which saw him finish in a share of seventh at last week’s Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open but somehow managed to get his finger jammed in a luggage trolley at the airport on Monday.

The injury has swollen to the point where he cannot grip his clubs and, for the good of the tournament, he has taken an early decision to pull out.

"I don’t want to tee off Thursday and play one hole or a few shots and then withdraw after taking someone’s spot," he told reporters. "I just can’t do that. So I’m going to have to withdraw from this one.

"I was really looking forward to playing this week. I had a goal of getting back in the top 20 by the end of the season, I needed a good week this week so, unfortunately, that’s not going to happen."

The field is, as expected, dominated by South African players and includes the likes of Mauritius winner Dylan Frittelli, George Coetzee, Haydn Porteous and Darren Fichardt.
