Montgomerie on future Cup role
Colin Montgomerie says he would accept the role of European Ryder Cup captain in the future, but is not pushing his name forward.
The Scot skippered the team to success over the USA at Celtic Manor, as Europe won back the trophy in October, and originally ruled himself out when asked about becoming a returning captain.
Montgomerie has been mentioned as a potential candidate when the team competition heads to Scotland in 2014, when Gleneagles plays host.
Jose Maria Olazabal will be captaining the team at Medinah next year, but already the speculation has begun as to who will be handed the role in three years time.
When asked whether he would take the position again in his native land, Monty said: "Whether I'll be captain or not isn't my decision. I'll not be promoting myself in that way. If they ask me, yes."
The eight-time Order of Merit winner has mentioned former Ryder Cup stars Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjorn and Paul McGinlay as potential candidates.
