Allegri gives Higuain Argentina encouragement

Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain has a point to prove after being left out their squad, according to Massimiliano Allegri.

Higuain was left out of Argentina’s squad for their final set of World Cup qualifiers next month after his indifferent start to the season, which even led to criticism from Allegri following Juventus’ Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

Despite netting twice in his first three Serie A matches, Jorge Sampaoli decided to leave out the 29-year-old, instead calling on others including club team-mate Paulo Dybala, and Allegri says the former Real Madrid striker now needs to prove himself further.

“He needs to be calm and play the way he knows how,” Juve boss Allegri told reporters.

“Not being called up by Argentina is a strong incentive for him to repeat last season’s performances and to improve, like all of us.”
