Martial’s France absence a mystery – Young
Manchester United’s Ashley Young is confused at team-mate Anthony Martial’s continued omission from France’s national team.
Martial endured a difficult 2017/18 campaign, scoring just nine goals from 30 Premier League games, and he was left out of Les Bleus’ World Cup-winning squad for the major event in Russia this summer.
The 22-year-old appeared to be heading for the Old Trafford exit door in the previous window but instead he has worked his way back into the first-team fold.
He scored both of the Red Devils’ goals in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Young, who featured regularly for England at the World Cup, is flabbergasted at his team-mate’s absence from the French national team.
‘He is fantastic, he is a world-class player. To be honest I am not sure why he is not in the France squad, but that is down to the French manager,’ he United’s official website.
‘For me, I see him day in, day out and he is some talent. He is unbelievable and he has shown his finishing [ability] day in, day out at training. He is a fantastic player and he got the goals today.’
