The Tigers are hopeful of having a whole host of senior players back on the training picture over the course of the next month but it will be the sight of Hernandez back in action that will lift fans’ spirits.
The Uruguay international managed just three appearances before rupturing his Achilles tendon but could be in the travelling party for the trip to Ipswich this weekend.
Adkins is eager to have Hernandez back but is wary of rushing him in to action and the former Palermo hitman suffering another setback.
“You have to make sure you give Abel every opportunity to play,” Adkins said. “With the games that we have got coming thick and fast and with Abel in the situation where he was feeling his hamstring the other day, he pulls it he is out for six weeks and it ruins the rest of the season for him.
“He has to make sure that is right. He comes into contention for the squad as long as he doesn’t rock up with an ailment.’
Ondrej Mazuch, Markus Henriksen and Harry Wilson are also available once more, although they may have to wait to make their returns with the game at Ipswich in doubt due to snow and freezing temperatures.
Watford boss Javi Gracia does not think Abdoulaye Doucoure's form will be affected by his omission from France's latest squad.
