Aspas aiming to keep Spain place

Iago Aspas says he's determined to keep his place in the Spain squad after continuing to impress for Celta Vigo.

The 30-year-old has been involved in the senior Spain squad for the past 12 months and, after scoring on his debut against England, has managed a further two goals in six international caps overall.

The former Liverpool man has hit six league goals already this season for Celta, to add to the 26 in all competitions he notched last season, and he hopes to maintain his form to become a regular fixture in the Spain squad.

"Every call-up is an honour and a reward for my form," he told Marca.

"A few years ago it would not have been easy to believe I would be involved with the squad but it is fantastic to be amongst a small group of great players.

"It’s been a really positive first year with the squad and I will do everything the Coach asks of me.

"I’m not taking anything for granted as there are so many options for the Coach and we have many talented players."
