Claudio Bravo has admitted being told he was not the first-choice keeper at Barcelona was the key to him leaving the Camp Nou.
The 33-year-old was told that Marc-Andre ter Stegen would become the number one between the sticks with the La Liga giants when the German was back to full fitness.
Bravo was adamant he would not settle for a place on the bench and that spurred the Chilean to join former Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
He told Cadena SER: "It was not me that was [first] at Barca, it was Ter Stegen.
"The club made me an offer to renew but, seeing their plans, I also made them understand my position.
"I was very sincere; I did not want to sit on the bench. It's not my thing. And they understood. In Barcelona I always devoted myself to doing my best, I always felt the support."
