Valencia have confirmed that Pako Ayestaran has been sacked following a poor start to the 2016-17 campaign.
Los Che currently prop up the Spanish top-flight after falling to four successive defeats against Las Palmas, Eibar, Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao.
Ayesteran, who worked as an assistant to predecessor Gary Neville, was handed the job on a permanent basis over the summer after he stepped in to steady the ship in the final two months of last season.
Valencia confirmed the news on their official website late on Tuesday after admitting they felt other options may be better placed to carry the club forward,
A statement on the club’s official website said: “Following the meeting held today by the board of directors, Valencia CF have decided to relieve Coach Pako Ayestaran from his office.
“The decision was made after analysis of the current sporting situation and results.
“While the club finalises the appointment of a new Coach, the person that will serve as Coach of the first team on an interim basis but with full responsibility and confidence of the club is Voro Gonzalez.
“Valencia CF wish to thank the involvement, effort and professionalism of Pako Ayestaran and his coaching staff in his time at the helm. The club wish him all the best of luck for the future.”
