The Argentina international is currently behind Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti in the Barca pecking order and has started just four of Barcelona's last nine games.
Mascherano has no complaints over his role in the team, but indicated he could be tempted by a move away from the Catalan giants next summer when he will have one year left on his current deal.
"I'm playing less for my club right now because there are two better centre-backs. I will try to fight for my place and to be ready when I'm called upon," he told ESPN.
"When you have someone better ahead of you, you accept it and try to turn the situation around. I'm not a player that gets angry, especially not with coaches. I still have a contract with the club and they have shown they are happy with me, but I haven't spoken with anyone yet. Perhaps at the end of this season, I'll analyse what to do."
