Barcelona have confirmed Lionel Messi will be missing for three weeks after he suffered a ruptured adductor muscle in his right leg.
Messi picked up the problem in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou and the forward was replaced with 58 minutes to go by Arda Turan.
The Argentina international, who has scored four goals in five La Liga outings this season, will now be out of action for just under a month after the club confirmed his absence.
Manager Luis Enrique admits losing the 29-year-old is extremely hard for the team but he is confident the squad are capable of picking up results without their talisman.
"Losing Messi is a loss to us and a loss to football," he said. "With Leo we are stronger, but we are still strong without him."
Messi is now set to miss league matches against Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo plus a Champions League tie away to Borussia Monchengladbach in between.
The Catalans are currently sitting third in the table, three points behind leaders Real Madrid and one point adrift of Sevilla in second.
