Pique welcomes Martino tactics
La Liga, Updated:
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes his side have benefited from the variation of tactics brought in by manager Gerardo Martino.
The Blaugrana have enjoyed a successful spell using their 'tiki-taka' style under Martino's predecessors Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova.
However, Barca have come unstuck on occasions in the Champions League and Pique believes that Martino has been able to add alternative tactics which should make the La Liga title holders even stronger.
He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "We played the last few years with homegrown coaches, first Pep and then Tito, and maybe we ended up exasperating our style of play to the extent that we found ourselves slaves to that system, that style.
"Now that Tata (Martino), who comes from outside the club, has arrived, and who shares the same ideas of football, which are based on possession, he is, however, showing us different options."
