Rodriguez, who arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2014 from Monaco, has fallen down the pecking order ever since Zidane was appointed manager on January 4.
The Colombia international has only made two La Liga starts this season whilst his overall game-time in the league amounts to just 215 minutes.
Rumours had suggested the 25-year-old could be set for a January exit but the recent injury to Welshman Gareth Bale, who has been ruled out until 2017, has ended these.
Zidane has now revealed Rodriguez will be getting more first-team opportunities and the French tactician is confident the forward will be integral for the club in years to come.
"I know he is going to be an important player for Real Madrid," he said. "He hasn't been playing recently because others have come in and done a very good job.
"There's not much more to say – you look at the rest of the footballers and they are playing very well too, but James is a key player."
