Benzema rules out Lyon return

Karim Benzema says he has no intention of re-joining Lyon before he retires, suggesting he wants to protect his legacy.

The forward came through the club's famous academy, playing a leading role in four of their seven straight Ligue 1 successes.

Benzema was eventually snapped up by Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 and has gone on to win a pair of La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns at the Bernabeu.

Despite being away for eight years, the 29-year-old remains an icon amongst the Les Gones faithful and a section of the fans would welcome him back.

However, the striker has played down the possibility, insisting he does not want to ruin his reputation among the fans, although he has hinted he could coach at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais when he retires.

"I left a beautiful image," he told Canal Football Club. "I do not say that I do not trust myself to do something better but I prefer to have the image that I have today in Lyon, with all that I could give to the club.

"After, football, we do not know, but I'm in Madrid in the best club in the world."
