Lyon eyeing Wenger swoop – Report

Fulham reportedly spoke to Arsene Wenger and Andre Villas-Boas before settling on Claudio Ranieri as their new manager.

Lyon have been linked with a sensational move to bring former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger back to management in Ligue 1.

The former Gunners boss, who enjoyed over two decades in the Premier League, has been out of management since leaving the north London outfit around 18 months ago.

Wenger has been linked with a number of international and club positions in that time but there appears to be some weight to the reports coming from across the Channel over a potential move to Lyon.

When previously asked if he would consider a return to management, Wenger told beIN Sports: “I am not sure I will stop coaching as well. The devil is still in there but I have to see, do I like it? Can I be efficient?”

Lyon, who currently find themselves down in 14th place in the Ligue 1 table, are looking for a new manager after president Jean-Michel Aulas decided to axe Sylvinho following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

Reports have also suggested that along with Wenger, Les Gones are also considering a move for former Manchester United defender and ex-France and Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc.

The club will be hoping to have the positioned filled by the time they host Dijon on October 19 after the international break, before a Champions League trip to Portugal to face Benfica.
