Jardim wants more from Monaco players

Leonardo Jardim said he needs to work on his Monaco side's defending after an error-strewn 4-3 defeat against Marseille at Stade Louis II.

Coach Leonardo Jardim has urged his Monaco players to up their game as they prepare to face Rennes on Sunday.

The principality outfit have struggled in the 2019-2020 campaign to date and sit 16th in the French top-flight standings.

They have only taken nine points from as many games and a mini-revival with victories over Nice and Brest was brought to a shuddering halt with a 3-1 loss at Montpellier prior to the international break.

The Stade Louis II outfit have won only twice in Ligue 1 this term, with four losses, and it looks set to be another tough season for them.

Last season saw Les Rouges et Blancs just about keep their heads above water when finishing 17th to avoid a relegation play-off and the hope was that things would improve this time around.

However, it has not gone to plan and Jardim now wants a response from his men when they go up against the team sat in 10th place in the table.

“In football, we need to work hard. But also to work in a good atmosphere,” he told the club’s official website. “In the last match the team was not at the necessary level in contrast the matches against Nice and Brest.

“In football we have to prove ourselves every week, during all matches. This is the message I give to the players.”

Rennes began in superb fashion, winning their first three league games to mix it with the big boys but they have now stalled, with three draws and three defeats since then.
