Christian Gourcuff bemoaned the performance of his Nantes’ side after they missed the chance to go top of Ligue 1 when losing 2-1 at Strasbourg on Friday.

Mali international Kalifa Coulibaly gave Nantes a good start when he scored his third goal in six Ligue 1 matches in the 28th minute of the game to put the visitors in front.

However, the Canaries let their advantage slip after the break as Dimitri Lienard equalised on 66 minutes before Ludovic Ajorque scored an injury-time winner from the penalty spot for Strasbourg.

Gourcuff couldn’t hide his disappointment afterwards as the defeat sees Nantes slip down to fourth place behind Marseille – two points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

He said: “Strasbourg was forced to react [to being behind], and we did not know how to hold the ball, the ability to play under pressure is important, the technical maturity too.

“It’s difficult to digest this goal in the last moments, but even at 1-1, that was not enough, we must have the ability to drive in. These shortcomings are a little disappointing.”
