PSG president to wait on full-time Icardi deal
PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi says only time will tell if they sign on-loan Mauro Icardi on a permanent basis.
The controversial Argentine forward sealed a move to the French champions on deadline day after signing on loan from Inter Milan.
His relationship with Inter had broken down and the Italians were keen to move him on, despite the striker insisting he wanted to stay and fight for his place in the team.
Despite the fact he felt he could have stayed, new manager Antonio Conte wanted to get rid and signalled his intentions by bringing in striker Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United, who took Icardi’s No.10 shirt.
That was followed by the arrival of Alexis Sanchexz on loan and Icardi eventually admitted defeat in his attempts to change Conte’s mind.
Icardi scored 111 goals in 188 appearances for the Nerazzurri in his six years at the club and will now compete with the likes of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s PSG side.
Speaking about his new recruit, club president Al Khelaifi says he is very pleased to have him at the club but would not commit to saying they will definitely buy him full time.
He said: “He is really a great striker and we are happy to have him. And his numbers in Serie A show that he is strong and we can focus on him.
“Do you want to know if we will buy it at the end of the season? Let’s see …”
The club have the option to sign him permanently if he impresses sufficiently this season with a fee of 65million Euros agreed between the two clubs for the Argentina international.
