Rennes ready for tough clash

Rennes coach Julien Stephan says it is an 'historic moment' for his side to be playing Arsenal in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Rennes boss Julien Stephan is preparing his team for the battle with Celtic on Thursday but knows it will be a tough clash.

The 39-year-od tactcian feels he knows just what to expect when the two sides meet in their Europa League clash after watching them last year under Brendan Rodgers.

Stephan says they will be an even harder nut to crack with Neil Lennon in charge and believes they will be one of the favourites for the group alongside Lazio.

“This is a totally different group from last year. We think it’s a stronger team,” he said. “They are used to winning their national championship very regularly, every year almost. It’s a very big team with lots of experience at our level and with lots of international players.

“They can play in the air and they are very technical, with Callum McGregor , Ryan Christie, James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard just to mention a few.

“I do believe that Celtic is also one of the favourites. As far as experience goes, for instance, they should be able to perform well, maybe just behind Lazio.”
