Paul Downing targets promotion after penning permanent Blackburn deal

Paul Downing is determined to celebrate sealing a permanent switch to Blackburn by helping them secure promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship.

The 26-year-old defender, who joined the club on loan from MK Dons in August, completed his move on Monday and is now looking to end the season with a flourish.

He told Blackburn’s official website: “I am at a good age and I feel that my game can develop a lot more, and I want to get that promotion under our belt.

“I think every footballer will say that when you start the season, no matter who you are or who you’re playing for, your aim is to win the league or to get promotion.

“It would be my first one as a footballer, so it would be a massive achievement and it has been the goal from when I first walked in, and the lads in the dressing room said the same thing.”

Rovers currently sit in third place in the League One table, five points adrift of the automatic promotion places ahead of Saturday’s clash with second-placed Shrewsbury.
