Boothroyd vows to tighten up at back

Northampton Town

New boss Aidy Boothroyd has vowed to shore up Northampton's leaky defence in a bid to avoid relegation.

The former Watford manager takes over a team that has conceded 18 goals this season at home and 39 in total.

“You don’t win games if you can’t keep clean sheets,” Boothroyd told the club’s official website. “We need to make sure we are difficult to play against and at the same time go into games with an attacking mantra.”

Boothroyd has seen ‘a lot of positives’ since taking over at Sixfields and will offer every player the chance to impress him.

He added: “When I got here I had five DVD’s in front of me. But I decided not to watch them, I wanted to make a judgement with my own eyes.”

The Cobblers face a tricky start to life under their new manager as they host Crewe, desperate to add to their solitary win on home turf this season.
