The Millers were heading for defeat after falling behind to Bradley Dack’s 66th-minute goal, but they battled back to claim a 1-1 draw as David Ball struck his sixth goal in the last eight games in the 89th minute.
That earned the Millers an eighth point from losing positions in a six-game unbeaten run and Warne is pleased with his side’s spirit.
“The lads had a go and prior to the goal they had a go,” he said. “As soon as the subs went on the pitch the lads had a real go at the game.
“If we had lost that 1-0 I would still have been really proud to be manager. To get the equaliser, I thought was just rewards for their efforts.
“I thought we might have nicked a winner at the end, and that would have been ‘Escape to Victory’ sort of stuff.
“Against the most in-form team in the league to get a 1-1 that makes me really pleased.
“You’re not going to get it all your own way all the time so character in the dressing room will help you get an extra 10 points a season. They have done really well.”
While the Millers’ six-game unbeaten run is good, it pales into insignificance compared to Blackburn’s, which now stands at 18 games in all competitions and 14 in League One.
That is no consolation to boss Tony Mowbray, who felt his side should have won.
He said: “I thought we had the chances, it was really frustrating to not to be in front at half-time, but credit to them, they do what they do, they put it in the box, they ask questions at set-plays.
“We have got to take it on the chin, we dropped points but never mind, we move on to the next one.
“It’s not a place to come and score loads of goals, it’s a place to be competitive and we were. Other than a set-play I couldn’t see us losing a goal. The team are disappointed, we sat too deep at the end.
“They kept going and got a point and we have got to move on to the next one.
“We have gone a long time without losing a football match but ultimately draws aren’t what you need. We’ll just keep going, but there’s 20 games to go and if we’re going to be good enough to get there we will, if we’re not we won’t.”
