The Shrimpers have just sold reigning player of the year Ryan Leonard to Sheffield United and do not want to lose Wordsworth.
He signed an extension last summer but his deal expires at the end of the season and the former Colchester man has already said he is willing to stay at Roots Hall.
Southend are prepared to grant that wish with Wordsworth having impressed this season, despite some minor injury issues.
He has scored three goals in 19 games this season with Southend 17th in Sky Bet League One.
Wordsworth joined the Shrimpers on a free transfer from Ipswich in 2015 and has made 80 appearances, scoring 19 times.
