After a disappointing campaign last time out, Shakespeare is preparing for his first full season in charge and City will be live on TV in the season's opener for the world to watch on Friday evening.
Shakespeare says his troops have prepared well and are ready for the trip to face the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium as they try and pick up their first win against the Gunners since they returned to the top flight.
"I expect us as a team to turn up and compete tomorrow," said Shakespeare. "It’s the opening game in the Premier League and fitness levels are good.
"The application from the players has been good as well and I think we have got the fitness into them. Watching them in training and talking to them I think we have the balance right as well, but we all know it is a results business and we must be ready for Friday."
He added: "I think because it is our first game we are chomping at the bit to get started. The players want enough games and minutes on the pitch but whoever plays in the first game will want to do well. We’re in most competitive league in world at minute.
"We have to try and win most of games we’re in but we know what a roller coaster of league were in."
