The midfielder suffered a knee injury in the 2-0 victory over Southampton in May but recently made a return to the pitch when playing for an hour for the Foxes' Development side last week.
James says he hopes to feature for the Under-21s against Manchester United on Monday, while continuing his fitness work in training, as he aims to manage his recovery well and be back in action for the Premier League leaders at some point next month.
Speaking to Matchday Live on Foxes Player during the 3-0 Premier League win over Swansea on Saturday, James said: "I played 60 minutes on Wednesday night and I've been training now for a good couple of weeks.
"I'm hoping to continue with training and I'm working hard every single day to try to build the strength up around my knee.
"That's going to be an ongoing process for the next few months. There's an [Under-21s] game on 14 December against Manchester United, so hopefully I can get some more minutes in before the Christmas period.
"The aim is to try and play 90 minutes and stay fit and have no issues because there's still a possibility that something could go wrong. Touch wood, nothing will and I'm positive at this moment in time."
