Falcao a ‘pillar’ of the Monaco project – Vasilyev
Vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has confirmed he wants Radamel Falcao to stay at Monaco because ‘he is the pillar of our project’.
The 32-year-old Colombia international striker was heavily tipped with a move away from the French principality during the summer transfer window with Italian giants AC Milan and Chinese Super League teams thought to be vying for his signature.
However, Falcao, who has scored 39 goals in 55 Ligue 1 appearances during two spells at Monaco following frustrating loan spells in England at Manchester United and Chelsea, stayed on board.
And, Vasilyev has now revealed that Monaco officials are hoping to keep Falcao for at least another two years until his current contract expires.
‘AC Milan never contacted me for him and I read a lot of things about it,’ Vasilyev told L’Equipe.
‘The rumours about China was true. I don’t believe it anymore. The transfers window is shut, and they [the CSL] have introduced a luxury tax on transfers that makes it unlikely to put so much money on such a player.
‘And then we want to keep him, he is the pillar of our project. I would like [that] he [will] go [to] the end of his contract.’
