The 25-year-old has had an impressive season for the Potters which led to him being linked with a move to both Arsenal and Manchester United.
But in an interview in Bosnia he claimed he was Anfield-bound as he was quoted as saying: "I want to start preparing on July 10, with all the players of Liverpool".
That led to more speculation that Jose Reina would be allowed to leave the Merseysiders and possibly move back to Spain where he would become Victor Valdes' long-term replacement at Barcelona.
However, Stoke's chief executive Tony Scholes has now spoken out to insist that the quotes from Begovic have been fabricated by a Bosnian journalist in light of Tony Pulis' departure from the Britannia Stadium during the week.
"Asmir's agent rang me as soon as these stories surfaced," Scholes told scfc.com. "He assures me that Asmir doesn't know the Bosnian journalist and has certainly never spoken to him.
"It's complete fabrication and unfortunately it has been picked up by a paper in this country.
"It's inevitable when a manager parts company with a club that there's a period of uncertainty and erroneous newspaper reports certainly don't help matters."
