Dalglish hungry for cup glory

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish believes Sunday's Carling Cup final against Cardiff could be an important step in the club's progression.

The Reds haven't won a trophy in six years and Dalglish is determined to see his players grab the opportunity at Wembley with both hands this weekend as he aims to take them back to a position where honours are almost a given.
He knows only too well how winning can become a habit and wants his squad to get used to the feeling of getting into major finals, and being able to cope with the occasion to lift the trophy.
The Scot has invested heavily in new personnel since taking over as manager at Anfield for a second time and ahead of this weekend's clash with the Bluebirds, he has praised the stars who cost the club over £75m for gelling so quickly as a unit.
Dalglish told a pre-match press conference: "I think it's important that they get the accolades they deserve. When I came to the club as a player, I may have been the only one who came in that year. I was walking straight into a really successful club, who had won the league, been to the Cup final and won the European Cup.
"Everything was set, everything was there. It was still a work in progress but where they were coming from was a really high standard. We weren't at that standard when I came back as a manager. We have to try and get there.
"The fact they have come in and all got on so well with each other is reflected in the results that they've had."
The Liverpool boss is aware that his side are firm favourite for the game, but he has warned his players of the dangers of taking their Championship opponents lightly and points towards Birmingham's surprise win over Arsenal in last year's final, as an example of what can happen on the day.
