Needing to win the second leg at Stamford Bridge by three goals, Liverpool twice came within one goal of knocking Guus Hiddink's men out of the Champions League but just fell short as Chelsea finally went through 7-5 on aggregate.
But rather than being deflated by falling short after an amazing fightback, Benitez believes the match could have an inspirational effect on his squad for the final six league games.
The manager said: "Maybe the result is a positive because we saw we can score four goals here and we can do the same in any stadium. We can win a lot of games with this mentality.
"We showed character, quality and we have to be really proud. The players have done a fantastic job and the fans will be very pleased with the team."
