Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola flew to Lisbon on Monday on a secret spying mission to watch Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo.

Man City: Guardiola's secret spying mission for left-back

The Spaniard, accompanied by his brother and agent Pere Guardiola, took a private jet to Portugal and tried to remain 'undercover' during Benfica's 3-1 home win over Sporting Braga.

It is widely thought that their reason for the trip, which came just 48 hours before City's EFL Cup date with Swansea City, was to assess Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo, who turned 21 on Tuesday.
The former La Masia graduate was sold by Barcelona last Christmas for a knockdown fee of just over £1million and, although the Catalan club asked for a percentage of his re-sale value, they didn't insert a buy-back clause.
That puts City in a great position to sign the Spanish Under-21 star in the January transfer window as Guardiola seeks to add youth and attacking verve in his full-back positions.
