Ferguson wants to end on a high

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said he will not retire from the club if the side was struggling.

The United boss who has been at the club since 1986 has dispelled rumours that he will retire at the end of next season.

Ferguson has stated that his health is the only factor that would force him to retire from football management but he would not wish leave the club in a poor position.

He said: "If we hit a bad spell, it would not be the right time to go.

"I would not want to put the new manager into a situation where he was taking over a bad team," he added.
