Juve set sky high asking tag for Pogba
Man United, Updated:
Manchester United will have to splash out up to £60m if they want to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford from Juventus.
New manager Louis van Gaal has also recognised Pogba's ability and is urging the club to part with a club record fee to secure his services.
Juventus hope their massive asking price will deter United enough to force them to switch their attentions to other more realistic targets.
van Gaal is under no illusions that changes will need to be made to restore the fear factor at Old Trafford after last season's lacklustre showing under David Moyes and that will mean spending money.
The Dutchman has already set his sights on replacing Rio Ferdinand at the back following his summer release, with a £20m bid on the table to Feyenoord for 22-year-old defender Stefan de Vrij.
The French international walked out on United two years after turning down a new contract offer due to his lack of opportunities in the first-team under Sir Alex Ferguson.
United's loss and since proven to be Juve's gain as the midfielder have gone from strength to strength in the Serie A's side engine room to emerge as one of Europe's most in-demand talents.
