McTominay loan move blocked by boss

Jose Mourinho is believed to have personally intervened to block midfielder Scott McTominay going out on loan next month.

It is understood a handful of clubs in the Championship have contacted the Manchester United boss about the 20-year-old, whose five first-team appearances so far this season have come in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

McTominay recently penned a new four-year deal worth £20,000 per week in recognition of being the latest United youngster to come off the club's production belt, and Mourinho certainly feels he can trust him enough to keep him around at this stage.

Lancaster-born McTominay has been at Old Trafford since he was a schoolboy and is being kept in the loop by his manager, should the landscape dramatically alter in the next few weeks.

Mourinho is believed to be concerned over the long-term reliability of skipper Michael Carrick, who recently underwent a minor heart procedure, with question marks also surrounding the long-term futures of Marouane Fellaini and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Red Devils' engine room is seemingly well-stocked but McTominay's attitude and ability to play in a few other positions has Mourinho dismissing all approaches for now.
