France international Pogba will miss the hotly-anticipated clash at Old Trafford through suspension following his sending off against Arsenal last weekend and his absence will be a major blow for the Red Devils, as he has been in impressive form so far this term.
Indeed, the 24-year-old was at his imperious best prior to his red card against the Gunners, as he provided a marvellous assist for Jesse Lingard to score their third goal during that contest and Mourinho admits United will miss the Frenchman's qualities on Sunday, although he insists they have enough depth to cope with his absence.
“They [the other midfielders] do other things and have other qualities. [Marouane] Fellaini can score an amazing header, [Nemanja] Matic can shoot from outside the box and [Ander] Herrera can do other good things," Mourinho said.
"But a midfield player to do and create what he [Pogba] did in the third goal [against Arsenal], as an example, we don’t have. So, it’s not being pessimistic, it’s just to play a different way.”
Sunday's derby match is potentially a pivotal one in United's season as a defeat will leave them 11 points behind the Citizens at the top of the Premier League table.
