Red Devils chief will rest stars
Man United, Latest news update:
Sir Alex Ferguson will risk an FA rap by resting key players for Manchester United's final Premier League game against Blackpool.
The Red Devils chief guided his side to a 12th Premier League title under his leadership - and an historic record-breaking overall 19th league championship - at the weekend courtesy of 1-1 draw at Blackburn.
And, with United set for a Champions League final showdown against Barcelona at Wembley on May 28, Ferguson has revealed that he plans to take some of his influential stars out of the firing line when Ian Holloway's strugglers arrive at Old Trafford for the final game of the campaign on Sunday.
However, with the Seasiders embroiled in a fight to avoid relegation, their rivals could complain if an under-strength United side is defeated which ultimately results in one of them dropping into the Championship.
But, wary of that scenario, Ferguson said in the Daily Mail: "This gives us a real opportunity to look at how we can rest players and who needs to keep going.
"But we have a responsibility to make sure we are fair to all clubs who are struggling against relegation.
"Manchester United will try to win next Sunday, there is no doubt about that."
Despite Ferguson's pledge to Blackpool's rivals he could still face punishment from the Football Association regardless of the result given that Holloway was hit with a £25,000 sanction earlier in the season when he made 10 changes to his Seasiders' team for a game they narrowly lost 3-2 at Aston Villa.
