Bastian Schweinsteiger's future could be resolved in the next few weeks with the German likely to be paid off and dumped by Man Utd.
Schweinsteiger has been training with the reserves since returning to the club after Euro 2016 and manager Jose Mourinho has openly admitted he doesn't have room for him in his squad.
The former Bayern Munich star was omitted from the Reds' Europa League squad and written off as an asset by the club when they published their latest balance sheet.
United officials have been holding talks with the World Cup winner about releasing him from his three-year deal but the 32-year-old, who earns £150,000-a-week at Old Trafford, is reportedly demanding his terms are paid in full before agreeing to go.
Schweinsteiger was spotted in Belgrade and Munich this week as Mourinho's men prepared to face Northampton Town in the EFL Cup and could be preparing for a new chapter in his career.
Three Major League Soccer franchises, including newly-formed Atlanta United, have shown interest in the German while there have also been rumours of him possibly heading to Mexico.
