The Portuguese winger will announce his decision before Euro 2008 in a bid to end the unsettling speculation that has surrounded him since he first raised the prospect of a move three weeks ago.
Real Madrid have played a game of cat and mouse with the media and United since then, but now appear to be backing off in the anticipation of the player moving their way.
Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed on Sunday morning that United's American owners are prepared to pay Ronaldo to sit in the reserves rather than see him go to Madrid - such is their desire not to lose out to a club Ferguson has described as 'lacking in morals'.
Ronaldo - speaking to a Madrid-based newspaper - now intends to put and end to the guessing games and state his own plans.
"We are going to see. There will be news shortly," he told AS.
"In two or three days I will decide my future."
