United struggling for midfield options

Manchester United are short on midfield options for their trip to Liverpool after Marouane Fellaini picked up a knee injury.

The midfielder injured knee ligaments while representing Belgium during the international break and he isn’t expected back until the end of the month.

Paul Pogba remains a long-term absentee with a hamstring issue, while Michael Carrick is a doubt with a calf injury.

Jose Mourinho is likely to call on Ander Herrara to partner Nemanja Matic in the centre of midfield for the trip to Anfield.

Defender Phil Jones could be included in the squad after recovering from a knee injury but fellow defender Marcos Rojo remains sidelined with an ACL injury.
