Huddersfield boss David Wagner has described Saturday’s clash at Cardiff City as a ‘must-win game’ for his side.

There are eight points between the teams going into the match at the Cardiff City Stadium, with the visitors currently bottom and have lost their last nine games in all competitions.

Cardiff go into the game following back-to-back defeats – against Tottenham and Gillingham – but still outside the bottom three after collecting four points from a possible nine since Boxing Day.

Neil Warnock, who had a two-year spell as Huddersfield manager in the 90s, has admitted that he has fitness concerns over a number of his squad, after suffering knocks recently, but would not name names as the medical team continue to assess them.

Warnock says Kenneth Zohore is making good progress from a thigh problem, although Saturday’s game will come too soon for the Danish forward and it may be two weeks before he can return.

Huddersfield also have injury issues, with Tommy Smith, Aaron Mooy and Danny Williams still absent. Wagner thinks Mooy is still on course to return by ‘the end of January, start of February’.

The Terriers are boosted though by the return from suspension of Chris Schindler, while Jason Puncheon is expected to make Premier League debut for Huddersfield after joining from Crystal Palace.

The head-to-head stats certainly favour the hosts, with Cardiff unbeaten in their last 10 meetings – the reverse fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium in August finished in a 0-0 draw.
